Historical Photos/Archives Page # 2

This photo was taken at the B'ville Invitational in 1995. After several days of rain, B'ville's infamous 'PIT' and 'WALL' took its toll on the J-E Junior Varsity Squad. Mud covered the Eagles from head to toe, and "Pickle" Young did a face plant in the 'PIT'. Bottom row (L to R): Eric Murphy, Mike "Pickle" Young, Josh Schneider. Back row: Keith "Bones" Moore, Peter or James Simpson, Mark Schneider, Matt Rodak, Peter Lunn. On the blocking dummy to the far right note 2-year-old Kelsey Roman.

Pictured is the most successful J-E squad ever to compete in the Manhattan College Invitational.  The photo is from October, 1998 and the Eagles took the 3rd place trophy, the only one in school history at the prestigious meet.  The Varsity Squad also was the fastest team from J-E to ever race the storied Van Cortlandt Park's 2.5 miles of hills and trails.  Pictured from left to right: Pat Trainor, Mike Richardson, Jeff Whitmore, Jeremy Cornue, Robb Boucheron, James Simpson, Matt Whelan, and Coach Roman.

This classic photo was taken just after the Varsity and JV squads competed in the McQuaid Invitational way back in October of 1990.  The interesting part of this photo was the taped names on the bus windows.  The J-E harriers, so confident of their abilities, spelled out the names of the top five Marcellus runners, including their coach Jack Reed, to announce to the world that J-E planned on beating Marcellus for the league crown.  Five days later, the Eagles pulled a dramatic 26 - 29 victory over Marcellus for the league championship, just as the runners had predicted.  Ironically, Marcellus easily defeated J-E at McQuaid, but was not able to withstand the spirit of the Eagles in the big race for the championship.  Team members in the photo were - front row: Tom LaPrairie.  Back row: Mike Milton, Keith Carney, Andy Hilson, Curt Parry, Paul Gassler, Brett Frood, Ted Hackl, Bill Whiggim, Andy Huth, David Young, Kyle TenEyck, Coach Roman, Lando, and Jeff Badger.  Cut out of the photo (SORRY!!) were David Barnes and Brad Wolfanger.

I love this photo from our race against Westhill and CBA from October 5, 2005.   Thanks to the leadership and example of senior Jake Schutt, the Eagles loved their face paint and used it often.  Seniors Ryan Darling and Chris Weingarth lead junior Kyle Merrill and senior Jake Schutt in the early portions of the race.  Westhill won the race 23 - 33, but J-E defeated CBA 22 -39.  Weingarth finished 4th overall in the race, with Darling, Merill, and Schutt in 10 - 12th places respectively.  Sophomore Donato Direnzo can be seen just behind Schutt.

The 2007 C-1 Sectional Champs pose proudly in front of the H.S. Bulletin Board.  The Eagles took 2nd overall in Class C behind Tully, but was the first C-1 team to finish.  Senior Jeff Dononue and sophomore Cody Stanton advanced to the state championships and helped Section III win the state crown.

This photo kind of makes me sad, and from the looks on some of my harriers' faces, they know that their magical season is just about over.  This photo was taken high above Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx just before the Federation Championships.  The Eagles were fresh off of their state championship from the Saturday before, and got to race on last time in the Feds.  Knowing that a top five was about all they could accomplish, the guys were quite melancholy in their demeanor.  I was sad too to end this tremendous season.  What's the old saying: "We may never pass this way again"?

This was our night to shine at the Fireside Inn in Baldwinsville.  The 1998 team is being honored for their State Championship by Senator DeFrancisco.  The New York State Senate passed a motion that made ______, 1998 the official day to honor J-E Cross Country.  Wow, we put J-E on the map.  How cool is this?
