The 1997 J-E XC squad was one of the most successful in school history, winning its first Section III crown and representing J-E at the State Meet. The Eagles were undefeated league champs and won many invitationals this year. J-E's Jeremy Cornue was the individual Sectional Champ in Class B. Jordan-Elbridge finished 6th in the N.Y. State Cross Country championships and was 13th at Federations.

This group photo was taken in mid-October, 1997 just before the showdown with arch-rival Skaneateles. The Eagles were heavily favored to win the race and the league title. The race did not turn out as the Eagles had planned, and the J-E harriers had to turn back an inspired effort by the Lakers to eek out a 27 - 28 victory. Skaneatles Coach Jack Reed almost pulled off one of the greatest upsets in history, only coming up one point short in his quest for a title.
This photo was taken just after the Class B State Championship race - and J-E junior Jeremy Cornue has collapsed from exaustion. In this race, the newly crowned Eagles had to battle 40 mile an hour winds and torrential rainfall. Cornue had fallen earlier in the race and made a huge comeback over that last half of the race. J-E took 6th in the 1997 state meet.
This photo from November, 1997 makes me laugh. Notice the two errors on the bulletin board. The first one is the word 'CONGRADULATIONS' instead of CONGRATULATIONS. The other error is that the 1997 Section III title was the first one since 1987, not 1988. Anyway, the Eagle harriers were freezing in this photo and very proud of their accomplishments.
