The Eagle Harrier

Bader Sets Record!

Victory is 13th Straight

Jordan, N.Y. - The senior recognition crowd had gathered in anticipation. The rain picked up its pace. And senior Greg Bader continued his assault on the record books.
In J-E's final league contest before meeting number-one state ranked Marcellus next week for the league title was exactly what high school sports should be all about. Parents were there to honor their children, music was playing loudly entertaining the rain-soaked crowd, and the Jordan-Elbridge Boys Cross Country team performed at its best once again. The final score was J-E 22 - Solvay 34 and J-E 19 -
Cazenovia 44. Senior Greg Bader broke the newly designed J-E course for the second-straight week out legging Cazenovia senior Pat Dermody for the win. Bader's time was 13.54, an outstanding effort on a slick and definitely hilly J-E course. "It was really tough on our trails" said a content Bader, "I was slipping and sliding all over the place". Bader was as much pleased with himself as he was for his teammates' efforts in the hard-fought J-E victory. "We came together as a team today" added Bader, "I am really happy right now". Bader did not tell his teammates or coach that he planned to address the J-E Board of Education later that evening. Bader's address to the standing room only crowd in the J-E Auditorium touched almost everyone. "A ship needs to be steered from the top deck" read Bader in a pre-written speech, "and right now, we feel like a ship without a captain". It is obvious, that the Jordan-Elbridge harriers have one heck-of-a-captain in Bader.
The Eagles once again dominated the front of the race by placing three of its runners in the top four of the race. After Dermody finished (14.01), freshman Jack Gugel and junior Steve Slonosky came across the line in 3rd and 4th places (14.06 and 14.13). Solvay placed the next three runners before J-E's senior co-captain Tom Poppe finished in eighth (15.24). Senior Scott Sullivan rounded out the scoring in 10th place (15.31). Senior Carlin Coomey and junior Rob Patterson were
J-E's last two varsity runners finishing in 11th and 13th respectively (15.41 and 15.47).
